The Sparrowhawk, Formby - our 34th Walk and Pub Lunch

Today's 6.74 miles (10.847 km) route to the Sparrowhawk in Formby, has been saved and can be seen at...
NOTE: the walk starts and ends at Ainsdale Railway station.
The walk provides a real mix of landscapes including...
  • pine forest

  • acidic dune heath

  • two golf courses
  • an airfield

  • residential streets and
  • long bridleways

If you’re lucky you might, as we did, even get a glimpse of one of the rare red squirrels that populate the reserves.
Can you spot it?
The walk is relatively flat throughout.
Most of the paths are wide, well-made tarmac pavements or stone tracks, but one length of bridleway is narrow and can be quite muddy in winter and after periods of rain.
NOTE: If you follow our footsteps, you will need to cross the rail line at an un-signalled level crossing so take care to look and listen for trains before you cross.
You can view some of the photographs I took on the walk, as a slide show, at...
...or watch the embedded copy below...
We eventually arrived at The Sparrowhawk...

...for our Wednesday Pub Lunch...

...which, you can find out more about in my Maghull Foodie Blog
All I'll say is...
"It ended up top in both leagues"
What a great day - good weather, nice walk, excellent Draft Ales and excellent Food. what more could we want?
