Lifeboat Road Formby Beach

This post includes a Vidcast
#22 - 3.21Km Lifeboat Road, Formby Beach
#liverpoolwinterwalks Meander
(26th February 2019)

Yesterday we combined a visit to "The DaisyChain" - http://www.seftoncancersupport.org.uk/ - a Sefton Cancer Support Group that's a registered charity based in Formby and serves the population of Sefton

"The DaisyChain provides support to Cancer Sufferers and their Carers, attempting to fill support gaps alongside other voluntary groups in Sefton and the Merseyside area."

Providing...

  • Friendship and a listening ear
  • Emotional and moral support
  • Experience of cancer
  • Caring and home visits
  • 24-hour telephone contact

As for our walk, we started at the junction of Kirklake Road & St Lukes Church Road.

That's unusual for us, mainly because the parking at that end of the coast, was run by Sefton Council; now it's the National Trust, so for us FREE PARKING!

"I'm sure we'll be visiting that end again."

As many will be aware, I'm having a weeks break from my Chemotherapy and, feeling better already;
"Today we set ourselves quite a big challenge."
Yes it was another enjoyable walk from Freshfield Station, where we parked our car, to the Bar Mio for lunch, a distance of 5.22Km.

Nice to see so many others enjoying such a beautiful Pine Forest with even more signs of spring during our walk.

"So we completed 5.22Km in total contributing to the 5.7Km, 9468 steps done by 14.49hrs."

Arriving at Bar Mio - http://barmio.co.uk/ - was a very welcome, I don't think I'd manage much further.

Drinks
- Chris enjoyed a Latte and
- I had Beck's Blue (Another non-alcoholic beer that's popular with other pubs)

Food options were good and good value for money.

- Chris opted for soup of the day - Mushroom Soup  and
- I had Ham, Tomato, Mozzarella Panini

The environment, as you can see, was very pleasant and the staff friendly, helpful and efficient.

After lunch we caught the train, back to Freshfield

Thank you.

P.S. Disclaimer: I don't have any relationship (financial or in exchange for services) with any of the pubs that I write about.

Newsham Park 3Km Winter Walk #20 Vidcast

4.06Km Newsham Park Meander
#liverpoolwinterwalks
(11th February 2019)

Not included within the "Winter Walks" but no reason why it shouldn't have been.
You can access the route at https://runtogether.co.uk/routes/getgoing-newsham-park-run-route/

As with the previous 6 winter walks, this was very enjoyable, especially as it was warmer today and the sun was shining.

At the end of the walk we stopped at the Lake View kiosk for a drink and a snack (KitKat)

3Km Otterspool #liverpoolwinterwalks Meander #17 (4th February 2019)

3Km Otterspool Meander
#liverpoolwinterwalks
 (4th February 2019)

I was very unsure that a 3Km walk was possible today as the side-effects of my Chemotherapy are lasting longer and breathlessness & tiredness the main issue.

It was cold again today but under wind and/or with the wind behind us, it was very pleasant in the sunshine.

Sefton Park 3Km Winter Walk #15 Vidcast

3Km Sefton Park Meander
#liverpoolwinterwalks
(28th January 2019)

A different start to today's "Liverpool Winter Walk" as Chris and I met up with Phil Green (Communications Officer Liverpool City Council) for a video interview about our "Liverpool Parks Winter Walks".

"Looking forward to seeing the end result."

To say it was cold today, would be an understatement and by the time the video had been recorded we had to go to the "Boathouse Kiosk", a small glass-fronted building by the lake, which serves a selection of coffees, ice creams and other small snacks, to warm our hands on a hot drink.

Brockholes Nature Reserve, Preston (26th January 2019)

Vidcast #14
(26th January 2019)

Today I drove to the Brockholes Nature Reserve to enjoy a meander in a pleasant environment, albeit a little traffic noisy from the M6.

Our walk took us from the car park up to the "standing stones" past walkways out over meres, lakes, pools, etc., and to our right, the River Ribble.

We were both please to see the "Long Horned Cattle" used to maintain the environment.

We went into "The Look Out", one of many hides; I was annoyed with myself having forgotten my monocular!

The hide had lots of information available for visitors.

We continue down to the River Ribble and headed upstream and back to the spectacular "Floating Visitor Village", the first of its kind in the UK, bringing you as close to nature as possible.

The Visitor Village hosts a Welcome Centre, an activity room, the Lakeside Reed Bed Restaurant, The Nest gift shop and Coots, which is the perfect place to get a quick snack.

We went to the Lakeside Reed Bed Restaurant and enjoyed a large cake and a drink, however the other Food options were excellent and very good value for money.

"As you can see, the
environment was very pleasant"

After our "snack" we headed off home, remembering to pay on the way out.
we also spotted our first Pussy Willow bud of 2019.

(21st January 2019)

Today’s Meander was within the 94 acre Calderstones Park, in South Liverpool.

"Probably the nicest of our Park Walks"
A true Meander as the 3km route wound around the park. An ideal way to view what’s available.

After our Meander we visited the The Reader Cafè for lunch.

Vidcast #11
2.47 Km - National Trust Nature Reserve, Formby

(20th January 2019)

Today is our 46 Wedding Anniversary and I wasn't sure how far I'd be able to walk again as the chemotherapy side effects  seem to be lasting longer this time round.
As it happens, everything was fine and as you’ll see it was a very enjoyable walk.

Milbank Lane Meander

Vidcast #10
2.70Km Millank Lane Meander
(17th January 2019)

I wasn't sure how far I'd be able to walk today as my chemotherapy side effects was mainly tiredness.

We had been waiting for a delivery of my Healthcare products (no you don't want the details!) but, as they hadn't arrived I set off, on my own, hoping Chris would be able to join me later.

3km Everton Park #liverpoolwinterwalks Meander

Vidcast #9
#liverpoolwinterwalks Meander
(15th January 2019)

To say this was challenging for me, is a bit of an understatement.

Lots of ups and downs, steps etc.

However the 3km Meander was very enjoyable with stunning views of Liverpool, the River Mersey, Liverpool Bay, The Wirral, Wales and more.

If you've been to Everton Park do share your feedback, positive and/or negative, in the comments.

Meander along Crosby Beach & Lakeside Adventure Centre for refreshments.

Vidcast #7 Crosby Beach Meander
+ Lakeside Adventure Centre

(13th January 2019)
The plan was just to go to Crosby, walk along the Beach and back and to grab a drink and a bite to eat, before heading back home.

After our refreshments, we ended up walking back through Adelaide Gardens; mainly to escape being sand-blasted, if we'd gone back along the beach.

Canal Meander and Scrummies for Lunch

Vidcast #6 Leeds Liverpool Canal Meander + Scrummies Cafe
(12th January 2019)

Our plan was just to go to Maghull Square, along the Leeds Liverpool Canal and to grab a drink and a bite to eat, before heading home.

We ended up extending the Meander and had lunch at Scrummies Café (down near Maghull Station)

A haven for wildlife & ideal for quiet Meanders

As we are Meandering quite a lot, all part of my coping with Chemotherapy, I need to catch up with the Vidcasts I've produced already during 2019.

Yes, those who follow me on Facebook will have seen 9 Vidcasts already; however this is my...

Vidcast #5 Ruff Wood, Ormskirk
(11th January 2019)

Ruff Wood is central to Ormskirk, adjacent to Edge Hill University's campus and can be accessed by car or on foot via Vicarage Lane or Ruff Lane, both of which surround the west side of the site.

We drove to the woods and enjoyed the walk; we extended the walk by walking through Edge Hill University's playing fields.

Spice Top-Up!

So Vidcast #3 Matta's International Food Visit; Spice Top-Up (7th January 2019)

We were getting low on spices for my "Saturday night Curries" and there was a need to top-up.
Since being diagnosed with Bowel Cancer, we hadn't been into Liverpool for about 4 months; apart from Hospital visits so this Meander and Shop was a bit of  an adventure...

  1. a walk to Maghull North Station
  2. train into Central Station, Liverpool
  3. a walk up to Matta's International Food
  4. spice top-up and then...
  5. the reverse home.

Wednesday Walk & Pub Lunch is Back!

Wednesday Walk & Pub Lunch is Back!

It was 2016 when I last posted a Wednesday Walk & Pub Lunch, in my "Maghull Foodie" Blog.

Chris and I decided  that it was time to revisit and see if things had changed- especially positions in the Pub League Tables.

So on the 2nd of January we planned a walk and the first Pub Lunch was to be at The Frank Hornby, in Maghull.

You can read and see more about this at https://maghullfoodie.blogspot.com/2019/01/yes-were-seeing-if-league-table-has.html

So Vidcast #2 The Frank Hornby (2nd January 2019)

Welcome Back!

Welcome Back!

I can't believe that it was the 28th August 2016 that I last posted details of our Meanders.

I know that one of the main reasons was we were revisiting the walks we enjoyed and, as readers, repeat posts were hardly engaging!

So what's changed?

Well I've decided to become a vlogger (video blogger)  and post some of my Video podcasts of our Meanders; combining the audio component of podcasting with visual media.

What am I using to create my Vidcasts?

I'm using Clips (an iOS App) - https://www.apple.com/uk/clips/ - that makes Vidcast Creation Easy for Anyone!

You can find out more about Clips via my "What DL is Happening?" Blog at https://acljohn.blogspot.com/2019/01/very-easy-video-creation.html - the post also includes a tutorial video.

"I've already created 6 Vidcasts from our Meanders, Wednesday Walks & a Pub Lunch, #liverpoolwinterwalks and visits to cafes etc. but I wont bombard you with them all at once."

So Vidcast #1 Stanley Park (31st December 2018)

Inspired by Liverpool Parks Website - https://liverpool.gov.uk/winterwalks - we decided to give these 3Km "Winter Walks" a try (One a week probably).

So here is my first "Maghull Meander's Vidcast...
